What is your ‘view’ of Jesus? Who is He in your mind’s eye? Was He an itinerant preacher and nothing more? Is He a miracle worker? Is He a man of great compassion? Is He a prophet sent from God? Jesus is all of the above and then some. Much more than a simple carpenter’s son.

The gospel of Mark records for us supernatural events in the life of Jesus. One such event which took the breath away of Peter, James and John took place on a high mountain. After interrogating the disciples on his identity, Jesus allowed the three disciples in his inner circle to get an ‘up close and personal’ look at his identity. These three disciples got a glimpse of glory far beyond their present understanding of the Messiah. Jesus was transfigured before their very eyes in such a way that they did not know how to react or what to say. I imagine that it would have been the same for any of us.

The ‘Transfiguration’ brought heaven and earth together in a brief moment of the past, present and future all combined into one. Jesus is seen in a glorified state in dazzling white apparel while the disciples watch him converse with Moses and Elijah representing the law and the prophets. Just a glimpse for a short moment and then it was over. A glimpse they never forgot.

Today, we ‘see’ Jesus through the lens of the inspired Word of God, the Bible. We also ‘see’ Jesus through the presence of His powerful Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. When we embrace Jesus for who He really is, He stands ‘closer than a brother’ and reveals his trustworthiness.

Do you see Jesus for who He really is?
