Eternity...Have you ever been curious about that word? According to Webster's dictionary, it means; "the totality of time without beginning or end". A second definition is given: "the endless period of time after death."
Have you thought much about it? We are the recipients of life by God through our parents. The Bible makes it clear and it is without argument that we all have an appointment with death as well. Our physical, human bodies were never meant to last forever. Where will your spirit go when you die?
The Bible says that we are body and spirit. The Bible also says that God has put eternity in our hearts meaning that we know there is something beyond the grave.
Jesus Christ said; "I am the resurrection and the life" he who believes in me will live even though he dies." Jesus also said, "I have come that you might have life and have it in all its fullness."
The good news of the gospel is that God loves you with an everlasting love! He wants you to experience abundant life on earth and eternal joy with him in heaven.
But that same God is holy and can not allow any sinfulness in his heavenly realm. God must punish sinful behavior. You and I know from experience that we do not please God all the time. In fact we have a self-centered nature within causing us to actually turn away from Him to our own ways. According to God's holy standard of behavior, none of us could enter into his eternal presence unless that sinful nature is forgiven and someone pays the price for unholy behavior.
The good news once again is that God himself sent Jesus Christ who went to the cross willingly to take our eternal punishment upon Him. He was crucified and buried and was raised from the dead on the third day. He ascended into heaven and promised to provide eternal life and forgiveness to all who would turn to Him in faith.
What is faith? Faith is placed in a surgeon when you go into surgery. You entrust your life to his care. And so it is with God. Regretting our sinful ways and turning to God by believing in Jesus Christ as our sin-bearer, we receive his promise of eternal life. Rejecting his offer takes us on the path to separation from God for all eternity.
Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Do you hear his voice? Which path will you choose?
