Commendable Faith: Abraham's Eyes of Faith

02/21/2010 Commendable Faith - Abraham's Eyes of Faith:  Hebrews 11:8-19

trustPeople are famous for many reasons in our society. Some because of their looks; some because of their talents; some because of their bravery and courage. Some because of their extraordinary sacrifice. Abraham serves as another example of extraordinary faith and gets a lot of ink in the book of Genesis and the letter to the Hebrews. He leaves us a great example for increasing our faith today.

Abraham received divine approval because by faith he obeyed the calling of almighty God by GOING forth in faith, by LIVING in faith, by LOOKING FORWARD to the heavenly city by faith, and by TRUSTING God in severe trial. All along the way, he grew in his faith as he saw the FAITHFULNESS of his HEAVENLY FATHER at every step of his journey. He faltered but God rescued him. He met the test of trusting God on Mount Moriah with his knife drawn to slay Isaac, his only son of the promise. God changed his name from Abram to Abraham... the father of many.
Each of us has his or her faith journey. God calls us to GO FORTH in faith by taking initial steps IN BELIEVING IN HIS FORGIVENESS AND ATONEMENT for our sin. We step secondly by identifying with Jesus through BAPTISM. We then Walk or LIVE by faith through the daily circumstances he places us in. We too discover the faithfulness of God. We go deeper in our faith as we TRUST God through SEVERE TRIAL that we don't understand. And we LOOK FORWARD to the heavenly city by faith whose designer and builder is God.
