09/13/2009 We've Got Issues - Christ and Culture - An Introduction: John 17
How do we do that? Albert Mohler in his book Culture Shift speaks of our "influence" as a simple obedience to the Second Commandment: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Loving our neighbor as we love ourselves, works itself out through unselfish sacrifice for the Savior. Jesus explained this to an expert Jewish lawyer just who is our neighbor by telling the story of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritan traveler was more than "compassionately curious" when confronted by a wounded man overcome by thieves. He cares for the wounded man as if he was his own son or brother. He then goes the "extra mile" by providing for his lodging and recovery. What would it be like if we simply loved others as we care and provide for ourselves? It would take many of us out of our comfort zones and into the realm of an active genuine faith that would leave its mark on the world. It also would leave its mark on us and lead to a life of fulfillment and eternal purpose. What is your worldview? |

Everyone has a "worldview". We all look at life through certain lenses. Jesus prayed for his followers (John 17) that we should recognize our calling "OUT" of this world and into the kingdom of light. Yet at the same time, He did not take us OUT of this world but rather said that we would remain IN this world under God's divine protection. Not only that we would remain IN this world but that we are also sent back INTO this world on a lifelong mission: to influence our culture.
