|"Timeless" Truth #100 - by Ben Brown|
Well, this is it. When Pastor John asked me to put some thoughts together for Emmanuel’s website, I didn’t realize we would reach this point in time. I doubt if Pastor John did either. I trust that these various thoughts have pointed you to a deeper, more exacting faith in God’s Word. It is so important to understand specifically what He said in the original dictated languages. We must be ever wary of translations into our language that they do not add or subtract from the original text. It is not an easy task to capture rich Hebrew and Greek words into English. J.B.Phillips once said that his work in translation was akin to rewiring a house with the power still on.
The timeless truth of the Bible is amazing in itself. Because God Himself is timeless, we should not be surprised that His thoughts and words are also timeless. He superintended not only the writing of Scripture but has provided it intact for our generation. He has done His part. Now we the readers must either understand and accept or ignore and reject it. There is no middle ground.
I have written in support of Genesis because it is where God as an eyewitness has described the early history of our origin. It explains our creation and why things are the way they are today. This understanding of true history has been lost in Europe and North America. Man in those areas has taken credit for his existence. For many, Scripture has no meaning. I read a poll just this week that reported 53% of those responding believed the Bible to be truth. 23% indicated that the Bible is part fiction and part truth. 27% think the Bible is pure fiction. No wonder our country is adrift. Amos pens an ominous warning:
“Behold, the days are coming” says the Lord God. “That I will send a famine on the land. Not a famine of bread. Nor a thirst for water. But of hearing the words of the Lord, they shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east: they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, but shall not find it.” Amos 8:11,12
May Emmanuel hold fast to the Word and always teach it completely and without compromise. America in a larger sense has had its day, but there is still time to reach individuals while there is freedom to believe. I am grateful for the opportunity to point friends and family to the magnificent and vital Scripture through the writing of Timeless Truth. I invite you to do the same while the series remains in the archives.
Blessings and thank you all,
