In Jesus’ time there were times when the Jewish leaders asked for a sign, apparently attempting to challenge who Jesus indicated that he was. One of the signs He gave them was a very specific connection to Jonah whose story the leadership knew quite well. Jesus tied Himself directly to that sign in the Old Testament by stating that as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so He would be in the heart of the earth.

Of course there were other prophetic and astronomical signs surrounding the life of Jesus that the leadership ignored, such as the unusual alignment of heavenly bodies at the time of His birth and of his death. They also ignored the fulfillment of the exact prophecy given by Gabriel to Daniel of the day that the Messiah would appear. (Dan. 9:25)

When asked by His disciples about the signs of His return, one of the indicators He pointed to was a comparison to the times of Noah. Along with other indicators such as wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes was this connection to Noah that bears investigation. Jesus indicated people would be conducting their lives without paying attention to the One who created them. Sound familiar? Remove God via evolution and you don’t need to regard Him. But, there’s also something else we find in a careful review of the times immediately preceding the Flood. Men were continuously evil and did whatever they wished without restraint. There were also some strange unnatural beings that scholars refer to as ‘Nephilim’. They apparently went against God’s design of specific species, some kind of a weird mixed breed.

Now we make a not so large step into our time when men are unrestrained, having been ‘freed’ of the concept of God and Creation. Daniel points to end times when the explosion of knowledge will be exceedingly great. As an example, we have gone in a very short period of time in identifying human gene structure with the early promise of perhaps curing some diseases through manipulation, to the very horrifying and sinister experimentation phase. God specifically designed living things into certain species. However, with government encouragement and funding, experiments are proceeding to ‘create’ mixed species such as various animals with humans. Man is trying with still limited knowledge to usurp God’s control and ‘design’ some very strange creatures. The specter of loss of control is very real indeed. Is this an illustration of the time of Noah? I believe it is. I’m pointing this out; because there are very few Christians who realize this sort of thing is even going on as the world spins out of control.   

Never has God’s Truth been so crystal clear as it is today to those who study God’s never changing Word.
