What do you rejoice over? What makes you dance, perhaps the birth a child or grandchild? Perhaps the winning touch down in a close game or a homerun that clinches a playoff game; or maybe a bonus from work or getting an overdue word of appreciation? Paul rejoiced over his suffering for the gospel and the realization of seeing the Gentiles being included of what we know as the Church (Col 1:24-27 ).

The Christian is to rejoice over the gospel.

What do you labor, struggle, agonize over? Anything?

What holds your life together? When life is difficult, when relationships are on the brink, or work is pushing you to the limits, when your finances fall short or when your health breaks down, what is the glue for your very being? When the political landscape seems to be out of control, and world peace has the jitters, when there are threats of the polar icecaps melting or when a hurricane comes to town, is it science or the ingenuity of man that holds our world together? How about the cosmos, the stars and planets on their interstellar courses, what keeps them on track? Answer: Every bird that sings, every blade of grass, every life and breathe on planet earth and all galaxies above were created by and for Jesus and He holds all things together. If ever there was a verse that communicates the deity of Christ it would be Colossians 1:15-17 .

What risk are you willing to take? When people think about you, would you say that you are a risk taker? Faith is about risk isn’t it? We can chose faith or we can chose safety. We can opt for predictability or take a chance. Would your life be characterized as a life of faith, or, more importantly faith in what or who? Are you someone who is thought of as a person of love? Or is that one trait that really doesn’t make it to the top ten.

What you believe matters, because we all live theologically. If you say you believe in prayer, but you don’t pray (or you think of it as “the least you can do”), then you don’t actually believe in prayer… you just believe in the idea of prayer. This is why the Apostle Paul instructed both Timothy and Titus to teach “what accords with sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1 , 2 Timothy 4:1-5 ). The biblical term “sound doctrine” literally means “healthy teachings.” So it begs the question: is your understanding of Christian teachings healthy, or sick?
