2016 was full of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Babies were born, marriages began, and EBC celebrated 50 years of faithful ministry. Many of us also experienced challenges: lost jobs, struggling marriages, strained relationships, failing health, and other difficulties. Following the ongoing protests over racial injustices and the contentious presidential election, we have not been this divided as a nation in decades.

How do you describe the indescribable? The gospel writers and the writers of the letters of the Bible do their best. John’s vision in Revelation give us a glimpse of His glory. The Old Testament prophets also point to the arrival of the Messiah and His future Second Coming in picturesque form.

As a world, we seek to celebrate peace through the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE, various peace treaties, and recording artists’ musical renditions at Christmas time. Why is peace so elusive in our world and in our personal experience?

Isaiah 9:6 (NASB95)

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

How does one describe forever? Granted it’s a word or concept that we rarely consider. Yet when we enter the Advent season our hearts and minds are provoked with some notions that are atypical. Isaiah provided some every telling character traits of the promised and coming Messiah. He would be a Wonderful Counselor. Someone who would provide the best advice that any could render. He would be the Might God. No army, nation, economy or government would stand against His plan and purposes. He would also be Someone who would be operating outside of time. He would be eternal. Or in a more accurate way He would be one who is eternally our father. He will be the one who existed infinitely before time began and would continue on forever in the future.
