Is it possible to be a Christian who walks in darkness? There are many who have grown up in the church (and some who even attend regularly!) whose lives do not reflect the light of God throughout the week. 1 John 1:5 is one of the most important verses in the entire book, “God is light, in him there is no darkness at all.” John continues by making it clear that Christians who walk in darkness and refuse to confess (and repent) of their sin are not Christians at all. If God is light but we walk in darkness then we have no fellowship with God and no fellowship with each other. Instead, when we walk in darkness but claim to have fellowship with God then “we lie and do not practice the truth” (v.6).

Elwell, Tyndale’s Dictionary of the Bible states that fellowshipis Communion with God which results in common participation with other believers in the Spirit of God.

The Apostle John states,"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life….We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.4We write this to make our joy complete." 1 John 1:1 –4 (NIV84)

Last year I Becky and went to some friends house for the Super Bowl. We were down at halftime and Becky and I thought about leaving. “Its over there is no way they are coming back.” But, we decided to stay with our friends and watch.
